Day 41, a real GDR day

So on this Sunday we visited with some nice LDS members their tiny Eisenhüttenstadt branch. The church was located above a restaurant serving beer. Haha. The Relief Society consisted of just 5 women including me.

The cute little Relief Society. No not anticipating possible.

Feast after church

Then going to check out things in this former Iron Curtain area. Makes for a perfect little outing on a nice Sunday evening.

The bridge that was built during WWll to connect Germany with Poland but was then destroyed near the end of the war. So close, yet not reachable.

Next stop a Catholic Monastery. Still looking good.

Little play time

Eisenhüttenstadt (formerly known as Stalinstadt) was chosen to have a steel mill erected which would make room for a considerate amount of jobs. After the reunification of East and West Germany in 1990 and the fall of the iron wall, the steel factory was bought out privately which resulted in a mass job loss. More than 1/3 of the population in Eisenhüttenstadt left their town looking for other opportunities and leaving most everything behind. There were vacated buildings (mostly the ugly, communistic one colored ones) everywhere we looked. I just HAD to find my way inside one of them because I love a good scare (and creepy pictures) so here they are.

 Zombie apocalypse in fullness

That's what I call a fun filled Sunday.
