Day 50. Good bye Denmark for the second time

Today on the list is the long way back to Switzerland. But first: we have planned to give Møns Klint (the famous chalk cliffs) a little visit since we missed it on the way up from Germany due to weather issues. Even though it's on the way to Germany so to speak, we still have to reach the Eastern most part of Denmark which takes us about 45 minutes off track. We gave ourselves 3 hours for this excursion. Well, that was not enough as we were stuck in near standstill traffic for 1 hour. Turned out a tiny village decided to have their town festival on that day blocking nearly the only way leading East. It was a huge traffic mess. I decided to rely on Google map and take the tiny little streets and therewith bypassing the main stream leading around town. So here I was taking the 9 seat van (not mini van, big van) through the smallest streets only to find that they dead ended into the festival leaving me forced to reverse my wagon back out. Narrow, tiny streets. Remember? Fail, total fail!

So back in traffic for another time, we finally got to the destination passing through some astonishing landscape. I am really starting to understand the Danish word "hyggeligt". Sorry, no pictures. It was hard enough driving the tiny, windy streets while looking and enjoying.

So here we are walking the many stairs leading down to the "beach" as it said on a sign. Well, that sign was a bad interpretation as to what it was leading us to. A crowded stairway lead us down to a very repulsing stench formed by a rotten sort of mud and algae combination. There was no beach as you couldn't even get off the stairs because the chalk cliff met stinky muddish water. So here we did what all the tourist were stuck doing. Holding our breath while taking a couple pictures to then hurry back up the 300 steps or so and out of that stink. I felt the urge to tell passing tourist about the vast disappointment that was awaiting them but held my tong. I mean, no one told us either plus, seemed like a good and well needed exercise for most of them. ;)

Back on the road again... 4 hours later.

Ferry once more. The seagulls are awesome gliders. It was amazing watching them and capturing some of them in their gliding capabilities.

Even according to the Danes, this summer has been an unusually cold and rainy summer. And so the usually by July jellyfish infested ocean stays clear this year. I'm sad my kids couldn't witness those sometimes easy to spot humongous jellyfish even from the high deck of a ferry. Maybe in August when we return for our final few days...
